The final night of the season at McCook Speedway will be this Friday night,
August 19. Promoter Jerry Bantam is recuperating after bypass heart surgery last
Friday, but the rest of the track crew will be there to get the show rolling. It
will be Championship Night, and drivers will be pushing hard to earn the point
titles. The closest battles are in the IMCA Stock Car class where Dave Plowman
of Gretna and Cale Osborn of Cozad are tied for the lead, and Colton Osborn of
Cozad and Shane Stout of North Platte are only two points behind Jamey Kennicutt
of Gothenburg in the IMCA Northern SportMod division. Champions will be crowned
in the other three IMCA classes as well: 305 Sprint Cars, Modifieds, and Hobby
Stocks. None of those top spots have been secured in those classes, either.
Also, during
intermission, two bicycles will be up for grabs for the holder of children's
ticket stubs.
The pit gates will open at 5 p.m., the grandstand gates will open at 6 p.m., and
the racing will start at 8 p.m., Central Time. Grandstand admission price is $10
for adults for adults 19 and older, $5.00 for students aged 13-18, and free for
12 and under with paid adult admission. Pit passes are $25.00. Drivers coming to
compete for the first time will be required to pay a one-time registration fee
of $25.00 as well. For more information on the racing for this Friday, contact
Bill Berry at 308-345-2648 or Janet Gray at 308-345-2946 during business hours.
McCook Speedway is on the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in the northwestern
