2006 Revised Rules as of 2/4/2006

DISCLAIMER: The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These Mini Trucks, McCOOK Speedway rules shall govern the condition of all Mini Truck events and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee. Mini Trucks is strictly a novice class emphasizing the basic rules for all drivers.  The Southwest Nebraska Mini Truck Association requires a $25 fee from each driver and shall be paid prior to the first race. 1.

COMPETING MODELS - ELIGIBILITY

 

A.

Any American or foreign made small pickup 1993 or older.

 

B.

No convertibles, station wagons, jeeps, sedans, etc.

 

C.

Rear wheel drive only. If using a 4-wheel drive pickup, the front drive shaft must be removed.

 

D.

Minimum wheel base 103 inches, both sides of truck must be same wheelbase.

2.

ENGINES

 

A.

STOCK Four- (4) cylinder engines only. Must be in stock location.

Block numbers and head numbers must not be removed.

2300 CC Maximum.

No stroking, no turbo, no superchargers.

No roller lifters. All engines must use hydraulic lifters

Must run stock size valves with single springs.

Must use stock cam. No after market cams. No high lift cams.

Stock rod. no offset bushings in commection rod wrist pins.

Stock style flat top pistons.

Vacuum should b a minimum of 16" @ 800 RPM (=/-) 100 RPM. Compression will be within range of factory specifications                                                       Stock ignition. stock starter in stock location.

Smog equipment may be removed.

Solid motor mounts may be used.

CARBURETOR

 

A.

Stock carburetor for model and year of competing pickup. removal of choke is allowed. Holly jets allowed,  throat of carburetor must not be polished.

Fuel injection permitted if car came originally equipped as fuel injected. If equipped with electric fuel pump, make sure pump is wired through oil pressure switch. If vehicle is not equipped with a switch, it must be added.  

If engine was converted from fuel injection to carburetor, carburetor used must be a stock carburetor from an earlier pickup of same or comparative model.               

No marine carburetors, no holly carburetors, no aftermarket high performance carburetors.

1/2 inch spacer between carburetor and intake will be allowed.

(Restrictor plate will not be enforced until testing has been completed)

FUEL SYSTEMS

Maximum 16 gallon fuel cell.

Fuel cell will be inside a steel container and affixed to floor of pick-up bed. It shall be mounted directly above the rear axle, centered between wheel wells in box of truck. Cell must be mounted with 2 straps .125 inch thick and 2 inches wide  completely around the cell.

Tip over valve is mandatory.  Anyone found without tip over valve will be suspended for two weeks.

Racing fuel allowed, NO additives, boosters or alcohol.

COOLING SYSTEM

One stock OEM radiator or Aluminum in stock location. You may fabricate a hoop in front of the radiator not to exceed 2 inches outside diameter of the radiator or to exceed height of radiator. Maximum 1 3/4 .095 wall thickness.

Stock OEM water pump.

Electric fans allowed No Squirters.

6.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

One 12 volt battery only. Battery may be located in bed area just behind cab.

Battery must be in a secure tray and inside a marine type plastic case.

All stock wiring should be removed, and racing type harness used.

stock key switch is permitted, but we recommend the use of an aftermarket switch with push-button for starter. Whether you use key switch or aftermarket switch, switch must be clearly marked on and off for safety personal.

Mandatory Battery shut off switch, located in the left upper dash area, accessible to driver and track officials.

 

7.

EXHAUST

Stock exhaust manifold and header pipe required.

 

Aftermarket Header pipe must extend past rear of cab and exit to side of box.

 

 

8.

BODIES & INTERIORS

 

A.

Complete stock from original design of make and model

 

B.

Rear Spoilers permitted, maximum 5" tall, no sharp edges.

 

C.

Wheel wells may  be cut for tire clearance. Subject to tech approval

 

D.

All glass, windshield, doors, and rear must be removed. All plastic or fiberglass trim around headlights and tail lights must be removed.  Windshield opening and rear window opening must remain stock size. Brake pedals and clutch pedal must remain stock and in stock position. No after market brake or clutch pedals.

 

E.

Plastic front nosepieces allowed.  Ground skirts, metal or plastic, maximum of  8 inches will be allowed for appearance purposed. No hood scoops allowed. No holes allowed in hood.

 

F.

Dash may be removed, but must be replaced with sheet metal. IF you remove the dash you must tie the front down bars of roll cage together and use this tie bar as a dash bar to attach sheet metal. Cockpit area can be covered with sheet metal, but sheet metal may not exceed above the bottom of the passenger side window

 

G.

Floorboard covering such as carpeting, door panels, headliner, and insulation must be removed. Holes in firewall, floor and back of cab must be cavered with metal.

 

H.

Front seat must be removed, and replaced with approved aluminum high back  racing seat.  

 

I.

Doors and tailgate must be welded or chained shut, Tailgates may be fabricated from steel or aluminum sheeting.

 

J.

1x2 inch rub rails from rear of front wheel wells to front of rear wheel wells at widest point of body will be permitted. These will be drilled and mounted in a way that there will be no bolt heads outside of the rob rail. Rub rails are for body protection only. The use of rub rails to nerf another truck will result in a black flag and a $100 fine.

 

K.

All interior sheet metal other than dash will remain intact. kick panels, netal headliners, etc. Door panels may be cut out for door bars.

 

L.

Stock hood latch and safety latch must be removed. Rear hinges may be removed if desired. If removed hood must be held in place by 4 hood pins, 1pin at every corner. If not removed, hood must be held in place by 2 hood pins, 1 at each corner of the front of the hood. If you build a lift off  hood please attach grab handles to help in removal of hood.

 

M.

Hood must retain all bracing. Hoods may not be gutted to just sheet metal.

 

N.

No camper shells, T tops, moon roofs, or rifle racks allowed.

9.

APPEARANCE/NUMBERING

 

A.

All trucks must be neatly and brightly painted

 

B.

All trucks will display a two (2) digit number series (00 - 99)

 

C.

Numbers will be a minimum of 20 inches tall and 4 inches wide per digit on side of body and roof. Numbers will be 6 inches tall and 2 inches wide per digit on left side of rear tailgate and on panel where right headlight would normally be.

 

D.

Advertising or names of any kind is allowed.

 

E.

Advertising or lettering that is deemed unsuitable/offensive will not be allowed. Decision of promoter or officials will be final

 

   

10.

BUMPERS

 

A.

Front bumpers may be fabricated, 1 3/4 .095 inch tubing maximum. Bumpers must be capped to front fenders to eliminate hooking.

 

B.

Rear bumpers may be stock or fabricated.  If fabricated maximum 1 3/4 inch  tube, Fabricated bumpers must be 2 inches narrower than fenders on each side of body. Fabricated bumpers must be hollow and have inspection holes, 1/8th inch, for tech inspectors to check for hollow. Ends must be capped and have no sharp edges. Rear bumpers will be mounted in stock location.

 

   

12.

FRAMES

 

A.

Stock frames only, Frame must match body. No modification of frames to shorten or lengthen. No cutting of frame or replacement of frame with any other metal

 

B.

Frames must maintain a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance at all points of the frame. Measurements will be from bottom of frame rail to ground.

 

C.

Any sparking or dragging of any part may be cause for immediate black flag. You will not be allowed back on the track until the problem has been fixed and checked by an official. Any liquid coming from the real could indicate fuel leakage which is a serious safety item.  Failure to leave the track within 2 laps of receiving the black flag will result in immediate disqualification from the nights racing.

SUSPENSION

Rubber bushings only, no plastic or neoprene bushings.

Stock shocks in stock location. no racing shocks. one shock per wheel. load leveler or overload coil over shocks are allowed as long as they are not adjustable. No air shocks.

Stock springs in stock location. One spring per wheel. No aftermarket racing springs.

STEERING

Stock steering boxes for all makes and models. No modifications.

Aftermarket steering shaft and quick disconnect steering wheel allowed, but must be in stock location.

15.

REAR ENDS, TRANSMISSIONS, CLUTCHES, FLYWHEELS

 

A.

Stock rear ends required. Must be in stock location with springs and shocks in stock location. Any gear ratio is allowed. rear end may be locked.

 

B.

Stock transmission required. All forward and reverse gears must be in working order at start of race. Automatics or manual transmissions allowed no matter what was  in pickup when on street. Manual transmissions should have blanket or scatter shield over clutch. Automatics should have flex plate between bell housing and engine.

 

C.

Stock factory OEM clutch required if running clutch. Mo aftermarket or racing clutch assemblies

 

D.

Stock factory OEM steel flexplates and flywheels, No aftermarket or lightened flexplates or flywheels. Any indication of machine work to lighten flexplates or fly wheels will result in disqualification and loss of all points for year and 2 week suspension.

16.

WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKES

 

A.

Steel wheels only, maximum of 8 inches wide. Any offset is allowed as long as tire does not exceed 3 inches outside of body.

 

B.   

All 4 tires and all 4 wheels on the pickup must be same size.

 

C.

No wheel spacer allowed

 

D.

Maximum tire size is G-60-15.

 

E.

No mud/snow tires, no recaps and no studded tires. no dual air valves, no bleeder valves. The only racing type tire allowed is the IMCA American Racer G-60, or IMCA Hoosier G-60..

 

F.

No siping, softening or grooving of tires allowed. Penalty for this is immediate disqualification.

 

G.

Stock brake systems for all trucks. Master cylinder must be in stock position. No proportion or brake shut offs allowed. No anti-lock brakes allowed. All 4 brakes must lock up on demand. Steel brake lines only.

 

   

17.

ROLL CAGE

 

A.

4-point Main Cage will be required. Minimum 1 3/4 inch OD tubing with .095 wall strength.  1 3/4 inch OD is recommended and will be standard in 2006.

 

B.

Cage will either be attached by welding to frame or by welding to 4 x4 inch steel plates and bolting to floorboard with four 1/2 inch blots with locking nuts.

 

C.

Rear of cage will have an X brace consisting of one horizontal bar and one vertical bar.

 

D.

Top of cage will have a halo bar either from side to side or front to back.

 

E.

Door bars required. three bars as parallel to ground as possible of the drivers side. Attached to front and rear down bars and tied together for strength. Two bars as parallel to ground as possible on passenger side and tied together for strength. Drivers side steel plate required. 18 gauge or .049 minimum thickness, must be securely welded to outside of door bars. Plate must cover area from top of door bar to bottom door bar and from rear hoop down post to 5 inches in front of drivers seat.

G.

Two bars will pass through rear window to truck bed. Welded to top of roll cage and bolted to plate of truck bed or welded to truck bed. These bars may not exceed past front of wheel wells in bed. These bars are for aesthetic purposes only .

We recommend a good welder for the installation of the roll cage. If we feel the welds or the cage itself are not safe the track has the right to not allow an unsafe pickup on the race track.

18.

MINIMUM WEIGHTS

 

A.

No minimum weight at this time.

 

B.

Any added weight must be mounted some where in the truck bed. It is choice of the driver where to add weight.

 

C.  

 

 

D.

Any added weight must be painted white, have truck number on the weight in black, and be attached to bed of pickup with two 1/2 inch bolts with a backing plate on under side of box and lock nuts or safety wire to insure weights do not come loose.

Any added weight must be lead and be no smaller than 10lbs. No heads, machinery weight etc may be used as weight.

19.

SEATS, SAFETY, BELTS, AND OTHER SAFETY EQUIPMENT

All trucks must be equipped with a high back aluminum racing seat, and cover. This seat must be bolted to the roll cage not the floor.

Safety belts will be a 5 point racing harness with sub strap or the new style 6 point safety harness. All parts of the belt system will be connected together when on the track and will remain fastened until checked by the tech person in tech area, or the driver parks in his pit

Helmet required at all times when the pickup is on the track. Helmet should be a Snell 95 or newer, in good condition, full face or open face helmet. Full face shield is required with either helmet. Helmet must remain on driver until checked in tech area or in his pit.

Gloves and neckbrace are required. SFI certified is recommended. These will also be worn until checked in tech area or in pit.

20.

INSPECTIONS

 

A.

All trucks are subject to inspection by Officials at any time and in any manner determined by track officials. All decisions regarding the timing and manner of inspections, as well as which trucks will be inspected, are final. Any one who refuses an inspection of his equipment will be disqualified and not allowed back on the track for 1 year.

 

B.

A competitor must take whatever steps requested by a track official, including teardown of the truck, to facilitate inspection of the truck.

 

C.

only the driver and owner of the truck may enter the inspection area. Only the driver may speak to officials.

 

 OTHER GENERAL REGULATIONS

All equipment is subject to approval of  McCOOK speedway officials. No equipment will be considered as being approved because of having passed through inspection for any number of times. If you have been using an illegal part or parts for any number of times and have not been caught... consider yourself lucky to that point. However, once you are caught, all rules governing the illegal part will be immediately enforced.

For anyone caught with illegal or modified engines or suspension components there will be immediate disqualification, loss of your prize money, points for that night, and confiscation of illegal parts. Any refusal to comply with inspection requests or confiscation of parts in question will result in suspension of the driver, car, & owner for three 30 days and a fine of $500.00 dollars. The promoter has the right to change rules for the betterment of the class, and will post any changes prior to enforcing them. This class is designed for entry level, INEXPENSIVE racing. After the 2005 season, all participates will have the opportunity to voice and vote on upcoming rule changes.
